The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, will be brought before Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday.
Bobrisky faces a six-count charge related to Naira mutilation and money laundering. The charges include accusations of abusing the Naira by spraying money at various social events and failing to declare financial activities related to his company, Bob Express.
According to the EFCC, Bobrisky allegedly tampered with sums of money ranging from N20,000 to N400,000 while dancing at different events in Lagos.
He is accused of not submitting necessary financial declarations to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, despite substantial sums being paid into his company’s account.
Bobrisky was arrested by EFCC authorities in Lagos on Wednesday, April 3 for these alleged offenses, including currency mutilation.
The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, emphasised the agency’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency and indicated that Bobrisky would be prosecuted accordingly.
“Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command.
“We arrested him for alleged abuse of Naira notes, spraying of Naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.
“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the Naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon,” Oyewole said.
