Former Governor Peter Odili endorsed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of Rivers State on Thursday.
Odili made the declaration during an event in Ndoni, his hometown in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area where he commissioned a Primary Healthcare Centre donated by his PAMO Foundation.
The former governor, who served from 1999 to 2007, praised Fubara’s defense of the people’s interests and commended his performance in various sectors since taking office.
He urged Fubara to maintain alignment with President Bola Tinubu‘s agenda to attract federal support.
Odili’s endorsement comes amidst political tensions in Rivers State, particularly between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
Fubara and Wike began having some political disparities shortly after the former assumed office in 2023.
Yesterday, reports emerged that Fubara set up a committee for the recovery of state assets unlawfully acquired by Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Meanwhile, Wike and Odili had been close allies until recently. Last week, the FCT Minister disclosed that his friendship with Odili had soured due to political disagreements.
