The Premier League record for most goals scored in a 20-team season was broken on Wednesday night.
The 1084 goals scored last season was the previous record until Harry Maguire’s controversial headed goal against Sheffield United took this season’s tally past it.
After matchday on Wednesday’s, there have been 1092 goals scored in 335 games this season. There are 45 matches still left to play.
In a marked improvement, the average goals scored per game this season is 3.26 and if this scoring rate is sustained, 1329 goals will be scored by the time the season ends in May.
So far, Arsenal are the highest scoring team in the league this season with 82 goals, while bottom side Sheffield United have conceded the most with 92.
Each of the top four teams have scored at least 70 goals
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer are tied in the race for the Golden Boot with 20 goals each.
