Today, April 27, 2024, the Republic of Togo commemorated the 64th anniversary of its independence.
The President of the Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, on the eve of the celebration, reignited the flame of independence.
The gesture was followed by the chime and playing of the national anthem, “Land of our Ancestors”, a duty of remembrance of the country’s national heroes.
The procession was also done in a bid to admonish citizens to be patriotic and preserve what has been achieved and at their level, contribute to the building of the nation in peace and harmony.
The elaborate ceremony was held in the presence of the heads of agencies, members of the government, military, political, administrative and traditional authorities as well as representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and international organisations.
After the opening ceremony, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé proceeded to the Palace of Lomé where he attended a digital show.
The cultural event was made to promote Togo’s palpable and spiritual heritage, architecture, traditional dances, songs, plants and animal species.
