Protesters marched around the University of Georgia campus in Athens, demanding that the university divest from companies that support the genocide in Gaza.
Protesters established a Gaza Solidarity Encampment on campus early Monday morning. Police arrested 16 people and destroyed the tent two hours later.
A police helicopter flies overhead, but there is no additional visible police presence.
A group of people separated the crowd and placed cones to discourage the protest from blocking the pathway under UGA’s famous arch.
Protesters marched back to the location where the encampment previously sat. An organizer announced they were reoccupying the space and asked everyone to stay. Most of the crowd stuck around after the announcement.
