Quadri Aruna showcased his exceptional skills at the ongoing WTT Saudi Smash held at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah by defeating South Korea’s Lee Sang Su with a score of 3-2 in the second round of the men’s singles.
Initially, Aruna dominated the match, securing the first two games convincingly. However, Lee Sang Su mounted a strong comeback, winning the third and fourth games with scores of 9-11 and 7-11, respectively, leading to a tense deciding game.
In the final game, both players displayed resilience and determination. Aruna took an early lead of 4-1, but Lee Sang Su fought back, levelling the score at 4-4. Despite facing a 10-8 deficit at one point, Aruna showed remarkable perseverance, gradually equalising the score to 10-10. Aruna eventually clinched a thrilling 13-11 victory to showcase true championship spirit.
With this hard-fought triumph, Aruna advances to the round of 16, becoming the second player to do so after Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan.
The WTT Saudi Smash, sanctioned by the NTTF, attracted a record number of participants from 28 states competing across 14 different categories.
Aruna’s next challenge awaits against another Korean opponent, Daeseong Cho, in their upcoming match scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th.
