The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and First Exploration and Production Limited (First E&P) joint venture (JV) have contributed N53 million to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Nigeria as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
This donation, facilitated through the JV’s Impact First Initiative, aims to bolster societal welfare by addressing crucial areas such as healthcare, education, and economic growth in the country.
During the cheque presentation ceremony, Mr. Bala Wunti, NNPC’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer (CUIO) from the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), expressed appreciation to First E&P for initiating the programme.
Represented by Mrs. Edith Lawson, Deputy Manager of External Relations at NUIMS, Bala underscored NNPC Ltd’s belief in the potency of CSR activities. He emphasised the company’s commitment to collaborating with partners to positively impact the lives of underprivileged individuals.
Bala highlighted various projects and programmes undertaken through the initiative, including the establishment of classrooms, ICT centres, laboratories, scholarships, quiz competitions, skill acquisitions, and economic empowerment initiatives. These efforts underscore NNPC’s dedication to fostering sustainable development in Nigeria.
He commended First E&P for its foresight and leadership in driving initiatives aimed at effecting meaningful change for a better future for all Nigerians.
Among the beneficiaries of the donation were organisations such as the Irede Foundation, which provides custom-made artificial limbs to child amputees, and the Human Development Initiative (HDI), which addresses fundamental issues of poverty, injustice, neglect, and equality among vulnerable populations.
Other beneficiaries included the OISA Foundation, focusing on education and healthcare interventions; the Cerebral Palsy Centre, providing support to families with children affected by cerebral palsy, and the Niola Cancer Care Foundation, conducting awareness campaigns and screenings for colon cancer in communities.
