Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will leave the club in the summer when his contract expires, following three seasons at the club.
The 31-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2021, after a trophy-laden career at Real Madrid for an initial fee of about £34m and has made 93 appearances.
The former France international helped United win its first major trophy in six years, lifting the Carabao Cup in 2023 when manager Erik ten Hag’s side beat Newcastle United in the final.
Varane won three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies at Real Madrid before joining United under then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He retired from international football in 2023, five years after winning the World Cup with France in Russia. He was capped 93 times.
The centre-back has been out injured since a 4-3 defeat by Chelsea on April 4, and it is doubtful he will be fit for United’s final three games of the season.
They play Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Wednesday before their final league game of the campaign away at Brighton on Sunday.
In a message he posted to fans Speaking directly to the fans, Varane said: “To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it has been a few amazing years to play for this special club and wear that shirt. “For my kids, it’s home here. It is going to be a special place for me for life.
“I will see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye in this season’s last home game. And it will be a very emotional day for me, for sure.”
