According to reports, threatening emails from unidentified individuals, indicating bomb attacks on numerous schools in Cyprus, prompted an evacuation of pupils across the island.
The menacing messages also included threats such as “sever your necks” and “drown you in your blood,” which the police have classified as having an Islamist background.
Christos Andreou, the spokesman for the Cyprus police, stated that nearly all primary and secondary schools, along with some kindergartens, received these messages.
Thankfully, after investigations and extensive searches, no explosive devices were discovered.
In response to the bomb scare, many parents opted to withdraw their children from school. Reports say that the threats are associated with Islamic law, or Sharia, with the unknown sender of the emails demanding punishment for all non-believers.
The police have noted that the message was poorly written in Greek and translated online. Authorities are currently trying to identify the individual responsible for the message and determine its origin.
