The Nigerian Government has reportedly invited the organised Labour to deliberate more on the minimum wage.
“A letter has been addressed to Labour by the committee chairman and signed by the NSIWC chairman. The meeting is scheduled for Friday.
“Of course, Labour will attend. If they present a better offer on Friday we will accept it,” the source revealed.
In the previous encounter between the Nigerian Government and Labour, discussions hit a dead end when Labour turned down the government’s offer of N60,000. Labour then adjusted its request from N497,000 to N494,000.
On May Day, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria set a deadline of Friday, May 31, 2024, to conclude negotiations with the government regarding the updated minimum wage.
“We have an ultimatum on May Day that if by May end, we don’t have a new minimum wage that will take a worker home, we will not be able to guarantee industrial peace.
“We are sticking to that ultimatum,” The President of the TUC, Festus Osifo, said.
