Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni says his administration is committed to supporting young farmers to enhance food security and reduce unemployment in the 2024 cropping season.
During a visit from the new Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Ibn Grema, at the Government House in Damaturu, Governor Buni said the state government plans to assist 20 young farmers from each of the 178 political wards with necessary farm inputs.
This brings the total number of beneficiaries to 3,560.
The governor stressed the importance of youth employment and food sufficiency.
“This is to provide employment to our youth and to boost food sufficiency and food security in the state,” he said.
He also called on traditional and religious leaders, as well as parents, to instill strong moral values in the youth, aiming to counteract the decline in discipline and the rise in drug abuse.
Additionally, Governor Buni advised the new emir to uphold justice and fairness, promoting peace, unity, and development in the emirate.
News Central reports that last month, May 2024, Governor Buni announced that his administration is finalising plans for a significant agricultural intervention to enhance food security in the state and across the nation.
He made this statement in Damaturu during the launch of the federal government’s Strategic Grains Reserve Palliative programme.
According to Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the governor’s Director General of Press Affairs and Media, the initiative would encourage active participation in agriculture to ensure sustainable livelihoods.
Governor Buni emphasised the commitment to making agriculture in Yobe State attractive, productive, and profitable, contributing to food sufficiency, security, and economic prosperity.
