The Nigerian Government has approved Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as public holidays to observe this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday in Abuja, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo in the statement, stressed that the holidays are in honour of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), while urging the Muslim community to uphold values of peace, kindness, and sacrifice during this period.
He encouraged prayers for national unity, prosperity, and stability.
The minister assured Nigerians of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He called on all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to support the government’s efforts in economic diversification and recovery.
“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul- Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children,” the statement concluded.
