The governors of Nigeria’s 36 states have scheduled an emergency meeting for today, Wednesday, to discuss the proposed new minimum wage.
This decision was made shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) suspended the memo on the minimum wage on Tuesday.
It should be noted that the 36 governors had previously turned down the proposed N62,000 wage, citing concerns that some states would need to borrow money to meet the requirement.
Despite this, organided labour is still advocating for a N250000 minimum wage.
According to Daily Trust, Halima Ahmed, the Acting Director on Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), revealed that the governors will convene in Abuja at 7 pm today, Wednesday, to address this issue.
