According to the latest Rail Transportation data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) ‘s revenue from passengers increased significantly by 84.91% to N1.42 billion in the first quarter of 2024, up from N768.44 million in the same period last year.
The report indicated that 675,293 passengers travelled via the rail system during this period, compared to 441,725 in the corresponding quarter of 2023, marking a growth rate of 52.88%.
In terms of cargo, 160,650 tons were transported by rail in Q1 2024, up from 59,966 tons in Q1 2023.
Additionally, the NRC reported that an additional 8,000 tons of goods were transported via pipeline. Revenue from goods transported by rail in the first quarter of 2024 amounted to N607.32 million, reflecting a substantial 235.03% increase from N181.27 million in Q1 2023.
In summary, the total revenue from goods transported via pipeline reached N59.14 million in Q1 2024.
