Heavy rainfall lasting several hours in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has left numerous people homeless, with reports of several houses collapsing.
Flooding in the Genge Maigemu area of Tudun Wada has blocked passage for people and vehicles.
Residents have been seen evacuating their belongings from homes damaged by the rain, losing valuable possessions in the process.
“We couldn’t sleep as the rain started very early, and we were busy packing some of the things we could save,” Mama Bilikisu said.
Another affected individual, Salisu Ibrahim, expressed sorrow over the devastation caused by the rain, which destroyed his house and belongings. He shared the added burden of repairing his home and replacing lost items amidst ongoing economic difficulties.
Meanwhile, some residents attributed the destruction to negligence, pointing out that many had not followed government building regulations.
“Most of the houses were constructed on waterways, which causes problems and damages during the rainy season,” said Musa, an engineer.
