Fox Corporation’s Tubi is entering the United Kingdom’s highly competitive free, ad-supported video streaming market to compete with Netflix, Disney+, ITVX, and the BBC iPlayer.
According to Fox, the platform has made tremendous progress in the United States, with almost 80 million monthly active users.
Tubi says it will launch with more than 20,000 films and TV series in the UK market, including content from Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment. UK viewers can access content on the Tubi webpage via a smartphone app and smart TVs.
The platform will also include British, Indian and Nigerian content.
Fox Corporation acquired Tubi in 2020 for $440m as the US media giant looked to attract younger audiences.
Lately, streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have introduced ad-supported options and increased subscription fees to ramp up their earnings as they faced pressure to spend more money to grow their content libraries to meet the needs of an almost insatiable consumer base.
