The White House, standing firmly behind President Biden, has refuted claims that he is quitting the presidential race.
Reacting promptly to a report by the New York Times stating that Biden planned on quitting the race, Andrew Bates, the White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the president, described the report by the New York Times as false.
He posted on X saying, “This claim is absolutely false, and if we had been given more than 7 minutes, we could have communicated this before it was publicised. That claim is absolutely false. If the New York Times had provided us with more than 7 minutes to comment, we would have told them so.”
The New York Times quoted an anonymous source as saying, “He knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place,” referring to last week’s presidential debate, in which Biden did poorly.
It mentioned that Biden’s conversation is the first indication that he is considering whether he can bounce back after performing poorly at the presidential debate.
The New York Times quoted the presiednt’s ally as saying that the U.S. president is faced with the challenge of convincing voters, donors, and politicians that his debate performance was an aberration.
It said Biden told an ally that he might not be able to convince the public that he is fit for the job after his debacle last week.
