At least five people were killed by gunmen suspected to be herders during an attack on the Egwuma community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday.
According to a source who pled anonymity, the herders invaded the village at 2 pm on Sunday.
The source said: “Youths searched the bush and recovered five dead bodies of villagers.”
He added that security agencies have been informed about the community youths taking up arms to defend themselves against invaders.
When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anne said he has yet to be briefed on the incident.
