On Wednesday, the Lagos State Government clarified that it does not plan to reintroduce the monthly environmental sanitation or implement movement restrictions by the end of July.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, contrary to news circulating on the internet, the monthly sanitation exercise will not be reinstated.
This was contained in a statement by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina.
Wahab urged all residents to go about their lawful businesses, adding that movement would not be restricted on the last Saturday of July, as circulated in some news reports.
Wahab explained that instead of returning to the monthly sanitation exercise that will limit people’s movement, the state plans to initiate a weekly community-centred awareness and education campaign involving residents. He added that the governor never said that the monthly exercise and restriction would be reintroduced in July or any other month for now.
Wahab stressed the importance of maintaining clean surroundings consistently, rather than relying solely on government-sanctioned sanitation months or movement restrictions, emphasising that all residents must keep their environment clean all the time.
