At least 1,664 individuals have been forced to leave their homes due to flooding in four communities in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A report from Abdullahi Ghani, the Information Officer of the Sokoto Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), stated that the flood occurred after heavy rainfall in the area.
Ghani mentioned that the flood, after a heavy downpour on July 17, 2024, also caused significant damage to farmland, spanning several hectares. Furthermore, a large number of sheep and goats were killed.
The affected communities include Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan Tudu, and Tsite, among others.
The SEMA spokesperson revealed that 62 houses and 71 households were affected in Dan Tudu village, while 33 houses and 48 households were impacted in Balakozo village (Tsitse Ward).
Likewise, the statement noted that the incident affected 38 houses and 52 households in Gidan Tudu village.
“At Tsitse town, a total of 68 houses and 89 households were also affected, while the total number of people affected by the flood at Dan Tudu, Balakozo, Gidan Tudu and Trait town is 1,664,” the statement read in part.
