The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents not to join the planned nationwide protests against the rising cost of living on August 1.
Speaking on Thursday during a session with residents after inspecting the Abure to Dei Dei road construction in Abuja, Wike stated that the protest is politically motivated to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The FCT Minister assured residents that President Tinubu is aware of the country’s problems and is working hard to address them. He mentioned that ongoing reforms and policies will soon bring the desired results.
Wike those encouraging the protests are misleading the public and that protesting will not solve the problems.
“Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria and it is not for your interest,” he was quoted saying.
“Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem. The government is aware of the hunger and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will reduce very soon,” he said.
