Police fired gunshots into the air at the popular Top Medical junction in the Tunga area of Minna, the capital of Niger State, as a group of protesters tried to block the road.
Before the gunshots, the police had used teargas to disperse the protesters. Despite this, the #EndBadGovernance protesters attempted to regroup and were aiming to create a roadblock.
The policemen on the ground had to fire gunshots into the air to scare them away. They proceeded alongside vigilantes to remove the stones the protesters had used to barricade a section of the road.
Security forces, including the police, military, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, have assumed control of potential trouble spots, such as the well-known Kpakungu Roundabout on the Minna-Bida road, where protests took place earlier this year.
