The nationwide protests against hardship in Nigeria took an unexpected turn when a group of demonstrators in Kano set a bonfire in front of the Government House on Thursday morning.
The peaceful protest, which had attracted people from different parts of the city, turned chaotic when some protesters gathered tyres and set them on fire.
Security forces intervened by firing gunshots and tear gas into the air. The sudden escalation caused the crowd to flee in different directions, creating a chaotic scene.
Some protesters were injured, and others were left shaken by the sudden turn of events.
Before the incident, the protesters were waiting outside the Government House for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address them.
