US Vice President Kamala Harris nominated Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, to build an electoral coalition of coastal progressives and Midwest moderates to block Donald Trump from the White House.
This announcement coincides with Harris’ beginning a tour of crucial battleground states. The tour will start with a rally in Philadelphia later today, where Walz will be formally introduced as her running mate.
His selection is expected to shore up support for Harris across the upper Midwest— a major buffer critical for Democrats’ presidential hopefuls.
Waltz, 60, is joining Harris in one of the most critical phases in modern American politics. Pundits say, the ticket-balancing complements Harris who is from California and looking to become the first Black woman president in US history.
