On Thursday, Alhassan Doguwa (APC-Kano), a member of the House of Representatives, asserted that he is not facing any murder charges.
Doguwa’s statement came in response to allegations made by his colleague Abdulmumini Jibrin (NNPP-Kano).
In a statement he issued, Doguwa declared, “As of today, I am not standing before any court of law in Nigeria for alleged murder or culpable homicide. I have undergone comprehensive criminal investigations and judicial reviews at various levels and have been found innocent. Records of these rigorous investigations by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, which cleared me, are available for public review.”
PRESS RELEASE
Doguwa to Jibrin: Allegations of killing of 7 still hanging on you from 2019 attacks on Kwankwaso and Abba
I extend my sincere apologies to all the elders, stakeholders, and fellow parliamentarians who advised me to ignore Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa’s (NNPP, Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency) baseless accusations and fabrications. However, I must respond to his latest statements, as they touch on my integrity as a public servant.
Jibrin has threatened to release damaging information about me that he claims could lead to my expulsion from the APC, a party I have long been loyal to. His remarks stem from a political dispute that began when he criticized Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who disparaged the APC leadership in a widely circulated video.
Despite advice to disregard Jibrin, I must address his allegations regarding violence during the last general elections at my federal constituency’s collation center. These claims are part of a political ploy to undermine my electoral success. My campaign slogans in Hausa, “ZABE DUBU CI DUBU,” meaning “If I contest a thousand times, I will win a thousand times,” reflect the strong support I have received from my constituents.
Affirmations of My Innocence:
In line with our legal system’s principle that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, I have been cleared of all allegations. Recent judgments from three competent courts confirmed my innocence, including a Federal High Court ruling that granted me N25 million in damages for the false accusations and harassment I faced.
The Machinations
While there was indeed a crisis in my area instigated by political opponents, I was not responsible for it. The police investigation revealed that the perpetrators were mostly NNPP members, who were prosecuted and sentenced.
I confidently state that no evidence links me to any politically motivated violence or alleged crimes. The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Kano State has confirmed my exoneration based on police findings.
Allegations Against Jibrin:
Jibrin himself faces allegations of orchestrating violent attacks during the 2019 elections, which resulted in the deaths of seven PDP supporters and significant damage to property. These attacks, reported by media and confirmed by police, are still unresolved.
I challenge Jibrin and his associates to address these serious allegations and stop spreading false claims about me. Instead of focusing on baseless accusations, Jibrin should prepare for potential legal consequences related to his own actions.
I leave Jibrin’s fabricated claims to public scrutiny and the media for further analysis.
Signed:
