Afrobeat sensation Stanley Omah Didia, also known as Omah Lay, has shared how his imprisonment in Uganda impacted his life and music career.
Omah Lay and Tems were apprehended and taken to court, then later jailed in Uganda for performing at a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12, 2020, despite COVID-19 social distancing rules.
They were eventually released on bail after spending three days in custody.
During a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay mentioned that his time in jail changed his outlook on freedom. He explained that his appreciation for freedom grew stronger after the experience, and he reflected this sentiment in all of his songs.
“After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom,” the ‘Soso’ crooner said.
