Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have decided to end their two-year marriage after Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The pair, known as Bennifer in the tabloids, got married in Las Vegas in July 2022 and held a huge wedding ceremony in Georgia the following month. Their romance began after they met while working on the 2003 crime caper Gigli set. They had initially planned to marry that year but called off their relationship early in 2004. They reignited their relationship almost twenty years later.
According to a court document, Lopez or her lawyer must inform Affleck of her request to end their marriage. Media reports suggest that Lopez, who legally took on the last name Affleck, did not mention any specifics about a prenuptial agreement in her divorce petition.
Lopez, who is 55, and Affleck, who is 52, are required to provide details about their financial situation, such as their present income, spending, possessions, and liabilities. The document states that both parties must reveal any changes to their financial situation “until a final agreement is reached regarding all financial matters in the case.”
The court gave Lopez a 60-day deadline to submit a financial disclosure. After Lopez submits her information, Affleck will have an additional 60 days to do the same. The document states that they could face a court-imposed sanction if they fail to report or update their financial information.
There has been widespread speculation about their relationship for months. They allegedly listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale at $65 million and were photographed separately without their wedding rings. They had split after a decade of marriage in 2015.
Two Time Oscar-winner Affleck was formerly wed to actress Jennifer Garner, whom he met while working on the 2001 romance Pearl Harbor.
Lopez has been married four times. Her first marriage was to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998. She then married her former backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she had twins, from 2004 to 2014. She was also previously engaged to New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
