The Vice Chancellors of the University of Jos and the University of Maiduguri are currently at the Nigerian Police Headquarters to receive the freed students who were kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State on 15 August.
News Central reports that the students, who were en route to Enugu for their annual Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) Convention, were abducted in Otukpo, Benue State.
A statement from the Force Headquarters confirms that the release of the medical students comes five days after the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, deployed a tactical squad to Benue and directed the Commissioner of Police in Benue to relocate to Otukpo.
The Inspector-General of Police, accompanied by the FCT Commissioner of Police, is also expected to address the recent clash between police officers and members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites. The clash resulted in the death of two Policemen and three others injured.
