Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Mafa Village, near the hometown of the late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, Yobe State.
The attack occurred on Sunday around 4 pm as residents were returning from their farms.
While details are still emerging, it has been reported that the attackers killed many residents and set numerous houses ablaze.
The exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed by the police.
”We are yet to ascertain the number of lives lost in the incident, which occurred at about 4 pm on Sunday in the remote village.
“Adamu Hassan, a resident of Mafa residents, reported the incident to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station.
“The terrorists also killed many people, but we are yet to ascertain the actual number of the casualties,” Police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim who confirmed the attack, stated, added that details were still unclear.
