The Paradigm Initiative (PIN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, recently organised a capacity-building workshop for key law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.
The training targeted officers from the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
As Nigeria and the world increasingly embrace digital transformation, law enforcement roles are evolving, with technology and the Internet playing central roles in human rights and crime dynamics.
The workshop, held under the framework of the “Stemming the Tide of Abuse in Nigeria’s Digital Space” (STANDS) initiative and supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aimed to enhance the capacity of officers in policy-making, enforcement, and adjudication related to Internet governance and digital rights.
“Our goal is to equip law enforcement with the knowledge and skills needed to protect human rights in this digital age, ensuring they can serve and protect all communities in Nigeria with integrity and respect,” said Paradigm Initiative.
The workshop emphasised the importance of law enforcement officers embracing these lessons and sharing them with their colleagues to help build a safer and more just society.
This initiative highlights the growing recognition of the need for digital literacy and rights-based approaches in law enforcement, ensuring that officers are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the digital era.
