Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped two healthcare workers during an attack on a primary health centre in Kuyallo Ward, located in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the village on Monday, targeting the primary health centre and abducting two community health extension workers.
A local community leader told media that the bandits had initially planned to attack a nearby government primary school. However, when they found no students there, they turned their focus to the health facility, kidnapping the workers. The source also expressed concern that some patients admitted at the centre might have been abducted during the raid.
The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, explained that poor telecommunication coverage in the Birnin-Gwari area prevented residents from quickly notifying the police. Nonetheless, he confirmed that a police team is actively pursuing the bandits in an effort to apprehend them and rescue the kidnapped individuals.
