Four hundred Nigerian nationals deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have safely returned to their home country.
According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser were present at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to receive the four hundred deportees as they arrived Nigeria.
They were also supported by other agencies, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant stakeholders.
The group of deportees consisted of 90 females and 310 males. These Nigerians were repatriated from the UAE and welcomed by the authorities in Abuja, with the National Security Adviser’s office coordinating efforts alongside the National Commission for Refugees, NAPTIP, NEMA, and other key agencies.
This development follows a previous repatriation of 190 Nigerians from the UAE on July 16, as reported by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). The Commission also noted that a further 250 Nigerians were expected to return shortly thereafter.
Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, made this announcement during a visit to Ambassador Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria. This visit came shortly after the UAE government lifted its visa ban on Nigerian citizens.
