The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) has made another major breakthrough in the fight against oil theft and illegal bunkering in Nigeria.
On September 12, 2024, the Task Force, in collaboration with the Rivers State Police Command, discovered an illegal oil refinery in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.
This facility was found to be processing and storing illegally obtained crude oil.
This information was shared in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday, September 13.
During the operation, four suspects were arrested: Emmanuel Nwachi (58), Adamu Bala (35), Nura Musa (22), and Bashir Abubakar (28). The police also recovered 40,000 litres of petroleum products stored in 67 white tanks.
The illegal site was destroyed, and equipment used in the operation was seized.
