Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a protest in Benin City, Edo State, rejecting the results announced so far of the governorship election held on Saturday.
The protesters gathered outside the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing officials of tampering with the announced results.
As of Sunday, INEC had released results from 16 out of 18 local government areas in Edo State.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won in 10 local governments, while the PDP secured victories in six.
Dissatisfied with the results, PDP supporters, chanting solidarity songs and holding leaves, alleged discrepancies between the figures announced by INEC and those recorded at polling units.
Some of the protesters claimed the results had been altered on INEC’s portal.
They urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene to prevent unrest in the state, insisting that the true election results should be respected.
