The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 305 councillors and 27 chairmanship positions in the Imo State local government elections held on Saturday.
The Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Mr. Charles Ejiogu, announced the results on Sunday, declaring the elections peaceful, fair, and transparent.
The elections were conducted across 305 wards and 27 local government areas, with voting held in 4,758 polling units throughout the state. According to Ejiogu, the APC secured victories in all chairmanship and councillorship seats.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, criticised the election process, calling it undemocratic and a “charade.” Obiaku accused ISIEC of failing to release the candidate list and voter register before the election, while also questioning the selection of electoral officers and ad-hoc staff.
Despite these allegations, ISIEC concluded the election with the official announcement of the results on Sunday.
