The People’s Republic of China and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in the entertainment sector, aiming to foster a culture of peace and promote cultural diplomacy, thereby contributing to global efforts for a more harmonious world.
This declaration was made by Mr. Yang Jianxing, Director of the China Cultural Center and Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, during the 5th National Entertainment Peace Summit held in Abuja to commemorate World Peace Day.
The theme of this year’s summit, “Cultivating A Culture of Peace,” resonates deeply with the essence of the gathering. Mr. Jianxing explained that entertainment plays a crucial role in alleviating negative emotions and fostering unity among diverse populations.
“Entertainment can help alleviate negative emotions by providing relaxation and a means to forget temporary sadness. Cultural exchange is very important in promoting peace . Entertainment must be promoted to be a cultural exchange hub between the two countries towards economic development,” he stated.
He encouraged all to embrace the entertainment industry as a powerful tool for cultural exchange and collaboration. The cooperation, entertainment between the two countries will be very important in the future. Therefore China places great importance in people to people communication and friendship through cultural exchange for global peace,” he added.
Mr. Nsikan Paul, Executive Director of Drum Majors for Peace, explained that the summit aims to promote peace through entertainment while sustaining harmony through various means, while Dr. Ayodeji Mafikuyomi, Group Managing Director of Unicorn Holdings Limited, highlighted that entertainment events create platforms for cultural exchange.
Other highlights of the event included music performances, cultural displays, and award presentations. The National Entertainment and Peace Summit was organized by the China Cultural Center in Nigeria in partnership with Drum Majors for Peace to mark World Peace Day 2024.
