Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has accepted responsibility for the team’s underperformance during his time at the club.
Appointed in September 2022 after the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea paid around £21 million in compensation to Brighton to secure Potter and several members of his coaching staff. Despite signing a five-year contract, Potter was dismissed in less than seven months.
In a statement shared via Fabrizio Romano’s X account on Friday, Potter said, “I take responsibility for the results. But the easy solution is, ‘Chelsea aren’t winning, so it must be the coach… he’s the problem.’ That might not be 100 percent wrong, but it’s not 100 percent right.”
Potter left Chelsea after just over six months, during which the team won 12 matches, drew 8, and lost 11 across all competitions.
