As part of the activities marking the commencement of the 2024/2025 legal year at the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will administer the oath to 87 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday in the main courtroom.
In a statement released on Friday by Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations, it was noted that the Chief Justice will also deliver a state-of-the-Judiciary address. This address will highlight the performance of the Supreme Court and the broader Nigerian Judiciary during the 2023/2024 legal year.
Additionally, key figures in the justice sector, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), will deliver speeches on the state of the country’s justice system.
The Supreme Court, which began its annual vacation on July 22, 2024, resumed sittings on September 23, 2024. However, the formal ceremony for the new legal year is being held in line with tradition.
All events marking the official commencement of the new legal year are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Supreme Court’s main courtroom.
