Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, has been released from prison after serving a five-year sentence for bribery. Lawan was convicted for demanding and accepting a $500,000 bribe in a scandal dating back to 2012.
His conviction was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court on January 26, 2024.
Lawan was found guilty of soliciting a $3 million bribe from Nigerian billionaire oil magnate, Femi Otedola, while chairing an ad-hoc committee investigating fuel subsidy fraud.
