New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has pledged to enhance his record-breaking start as the Reds head into Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Leipzig. With 10 wins in his first 11 games, Slot has achieved the best start for any Liverpool boss.
Currently topping the Premier League table with only three goals conceded in eight matches, Liverpool has also secured two victories in Europe.
Reflecting on Sunday’s 2-1 home win over Chelsea, Slot acknowledged that while results have been impressive, there’s still room for growth. Slot noted, “You can’t ask for much more when it comes to results, but when it comes to what we want there’s always room for improvement. I don’t think we outplayed Chelsea – we should but we didn’t. They had more of the ball than us. In an ideal world we would have dominated them like we’ve done in other games.”
When asked if the congested fixture schedule heightened the stakes for Wednesday’s match, Slot responded, “The fixture list is tough, but what do you expect if you play the Champions League. It’s what we like, it’s what we want, so we have to deal with it.”
Liverpool travels to Germany without several key players, including Diogo Jota, Alisson, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa.
Leipzig, currently sitting second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich on goal difference, has conceded just two goals in seven league matches. However, they have lost both of their Champions League outings.
Returning to his former club, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai praised Leipzig, reflecting on his growth since leaving. Though Szoboszlai has yet to find the net in the Premier League, he has one goal and one assist in two Champions League matches.
