Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has suspended the Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu.
The suspension, issued as compulsory leave, comes two months before the official end of Adamu’s tenure at the institution.
The governor instructed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Abdullahi Adamu Mamagi, to deliver the suspension letter to the Vice Chancellor, with a warning that failure to carry out the directive could lead to the commissioner’s dismissal.
No specific reason was provided for the suspension or compulsory leave, and staff within the Ministry of Education have remained silent on the matter.
However, some university sources have confirmed that the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Hassan Ibrahim, has been appointed Acting Vice Chancellor and has already assumed the role.
According to some sources, the suspension may be connected to alleged disobedience and disregard for directives from the state government.
