The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasised the significance of his role within the administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the launch of the construction of the Pai-Gomani road in the Kwali Area Council, Wike reiterated that his appointment as minister was aimed at enhancing infrastructure in Abuja rather than engaging in land sales.
“Ahmed Tinubu did not make me minister to come and sell land here. I did not become a minister to come and sell land. I took the position to support Mr. President to improve the infrastructure of that city and that is why every day I consigned in infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure, and infrastructure. Be it in the city, be it in the rural areas”.
He also stated that a government must be visible and make a tangible impact on its citizens.
“So some of those who had the opportunity to be minister here, who may be angry, who claim they love you, ask them what happened when you were a minister.
“Did you come to the rural areas? Did you see them? Are you seeing us now? And you are happy now? That is what the government of Asiwaju stands for.
“The people must see you. The people must have the impact of you. We are not going to television just to talk. We don’t believe in treaties. Do we believe in treaties? Our own is seeing is believing. Let me tell you, now you have made your pledge. We also make our own pledge here”.
He emphasised the significance of constructing quality and accessible roads for farmers, highlighting the need for efficient transport of produce throughout the country. He noted that challenges in food transportation are likely to persist unless a lasting solution is implemented.
“Because look at, why should Nigeria complain about food? Look at land. Why should we import food? But why would you not have problem of food when there’s no road?
“Even though our farmers, assuming, the road is a track road to the farm and they produce food, how would they bring it to the city without road?
“Now that they have road, would they bring their food out? I thank all of you. Support the company so these projects will be completed on schedule.”
