Russian lawmakers approved a contentious bill on Tuesday that prohibits “propaganda” against being childless, reflecting Moscow’s stance against Western liberal ideologies.
The lawmakers all voted in favour of the proposed legislation, which outlaws any public content, including films or media, that encourages “rejection of childbearing.”
To become law, the bill now needs to be approved by the upper chamber of parliament and receive President Vladimir Putin’s signature.
