Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State in Nigeria has commended the conduct of the local government elections in the state, describing the process as peaceful and satisfactory.
The governor also praised residents for their orderly participation, noting that the exercise was a testament to their commitment to democracy and their right to choose their leaders.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote at Ita-Osanyin Unit 2, Ward 3, in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, Abiodun expressed satisfaction with reports of smooth electoral processes across the state. He lauded the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for its preparedness.
While acknowledging minor logistical challenges in some areas, he emphasized that electoral materials eventually reached all parts of the state, ensuring inclusivity.
“I commend our law enforcement agencies, including the Police, Civil Defence, Department of State Services, and Amotekun Corps, for working collaboratively to maintain peace throughout the election,” Abiodun stated.
He described the voter turnout as a vote of confidence in the democratic process, especially given the increasing costs and challenges of organizing elections.
“I see this as a significant endorsement of our democracy. Despite the economic realities, our people came out to exercise their franchise. Their support for the democratic process is unwavering,” he added.
Abiodun expressed optimism about the outcome of the elections, saying, “Once the results are announced, and the people’s choices are reflected, I am confident everyone will be satisfied.”
