Nigerian music superstar Davido has committed to donating ₦300 million to orphanages in Nigeria through his foundation as he marks his 32nd birthday.
On Monday, the artist shared his plans via his official X account, stating, “Once again this year, for my birthday, we are donating to orphanages and a charity dedicated to preventing drug abuse and addiction among young individuals. This year, we are allocating ₦300 million. More information will be shared soon.”
Davido established the Davido Adeleke Foundation in 2022 with the support of other charitable organisations aiming to aid vulnerable children.
In July 2023, he revealed that the foundation had contributed over N200 million to orphanages nationwide, benefiting 13,818 children. He also vowed to provide additional funding in 2024.
The charitable practice began in 2021 following the singer’s birthday when he received over ₦200 million in donations after publicising his bank account details on his Twitter (now X) account.
After accumulating a substantial amount, he announced his intention to donate all of it to orphanages throughout Nigeria. He then distributed the funds along with an extra ₦50 million.
