The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced the rollout of 1,880 prepaid meters to its Band A customers as part of the Meter Asset Funds (MAF) Scheme.
The initiative aims to ensure accurate billing and enhance customer satisfaction for unmetered consumers who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April.
In a statement released on Tuesday, YEDC’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, confirmed that the distribution covers 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters. Installation, to be conducted by approved vendors, is scheduled from 18 to November 30, 2024.
“The Yola Electricity Distribution Company is pleased to announce the commencement of providing meters under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme,” the statement read.
“This initiative, targeting unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, is part of our ongoing efforts to provide accurate billing and improve customer satisfaction,” it added.
The MAF programme, launched on June 13, 2024, is part of the Presidential Metering Initiative, which seeks to expedite metering for electricity consumers across Nigeria.
The scheme has received the necessary approvals from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
YEDC emphasised that the prepaid meters will be installed at no cost to customers and urged Band A consumers to cooperate with the installers who will visit their homes and businesses during the exercise.
“The meters under this framework will be installed at no cost to YEDC customers. We urge all Band A customers to cooperate with the installers visiting their homes and business premises during the metering exercise,” YEDC stated.
The initiative is expected to address challenges associated with estimated billing, improve electricity accountability, and enhance trust between YEDC and its consumers.
