Four Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom (UK) for their involvement in a violent street altercation in Leicester City centre.
Destiny Ojo, Joshua Davies-Ero, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Habib Lawal, all aged 21, wielded knives, a baseball bat, and a crutch during the confrontation that occurred on November 4, 2021. The accused were convicted of multiple crimes at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday following a trial that lasted six weeks.
“An 18-year-old man sustained stab wounds during the incident, which required him to receive medical treatment,” stated the Leicestershire police in a press release on Monday.
“After the suspects fled the scene, police investigations conducted over the ensuing months involved analysing CCTV footage, examining phone records, and making public appeals that led to identifying the individuals involved.”
The Leicestershire police noted that CCTV evidence showed the men, all hailing from London, armed with various weapons.
“Davies-Ero was observed carrying a crutch, while Ojo had a baseball bat; Lawal was seen with what appeared to be a large knife, and Raheem possessed a large knife as well,” the police reported.
The court sentenced Ojo to seven years in prison for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and causing grievous bodily harm with the intent to do so. Lawal received a five-year sentence for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Raheem was sentenced to three years in prison for violent disorder.
The fifth individual, known as Asamoah, who previously admitted guilt for possessing a bladed article, is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.
