The International Criminal Court (ICC) has announced the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif.
According to the ICC statement, the warrants were issued for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes committed between 8 October 2023 and 20 May 2024. This marks a significant step in international scrutiny of Israeli actions since the October 7 Hamas attack.
“The Chamber issued warrants of arrest for two individuals, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least 8 October 2023 until at least 20 May 2024, the day the Prosecution filed the applications for warrants of arrest,” read the statement from the Hague-based court, which also confirmed a warrant for Mohammed Deif, the elusive leader of Hamas’ military wing.
