Arsenal reignited their Premier League title hopes with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Chelsea edged Leicester 2-1 to move up to third place. Defending champions Manchester City, enduring a rare four-game losing streak, will aim to turn their fortunes around when they face Tottenham later.
After four winless league games, Arsenal entered the weekend nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, who visit bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Sunday. However, the Gunners delivered a commanding performance to regain momentum.
Martin Odegaard’s return from injury proved pivotal, with his precise pass setting up Bukayo Saka to fire in the opener after just 15 minutes. Saka then turned provider, assisting Thomas Partey’s stunning strike early in the second half.
Seventeen-year-old Ethan Nwaneri added a memorable third, slotting home Raheem Sterling’s cross to score his first Premier League goal.
Meanwhile, despite a nervy finish, Chelsea held on for a 2-1 win at Leicester in Enzo Maresca’s return to the King Power Stadium. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the season, but the Blues missed several chances to extend their lead. Enzo Fernandez eventually headed in Chelsea’s second, but Leicester fought back with a stoppage-time penalty from Jordan Ayew. The Foxes remain precariously close to the relegation zone, sitting just two points above safety.
Also, Aston Villa extended their winless run to six matches after a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. The Eagles twice took the lead through Ismaila Sarr and Justin Devenny, but Ollie Watkins equalised before half-time. Villa missed a first-half penalty, with Dean Henderson saving Youri Tielemans’ spot-kick. However, Tielemans redeemed himself by delivering the corner that Ross Barkley converted for Villa’s second equaliser.
In another match of the day, Brighton climbed to fifth with a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth, thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and Kaoru Mitoma. Despite playing the final half-hour with 10 men after Carlos Baleba was sent off, the Seagulls held firm under young manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Wolves moved out of the relegation zone with a stunning 4-1 triumph at Fulham. Matheus Cunha netted twice, with Joao Gomes and Goncalo Guedes also on target in a second straight win under Gary O’Neil.
Elsewhere, Everton failed to capitalise on an early red card for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, settling for a goalless draw at Goodison Park.
