The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will launch a nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise in the first quarter of 2025.
The electoral commission stated that the exercise will initially take place at the Local Government Area (LGA) level before being expanded to registration areas.
In a memo dated November 20, 2024, seen by News Central TV, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission’s secretary, instructed resident electoral commissioners to make necessary arrangements for the exercise.
The memo states, “Please supply the following information for proper preparation for the exercise: The status of the INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) and its accessories in the state.
“The status of both coloured and black-and-white heavy-duty printers, as well as the availability of CVR forms and materials.
“The commission is considering starting the process at the Local Government Area (LGA) level and then devolving to the Registration Area (RA) level.
“The state offices are responsible for identifying and selecting staff to serve as voter registration officials.
“You are also requested to prepare information regarding uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to facilitate the printing of the register of uncollected PVCs for display during the exercise.”
INEC had previously suspended the CVR exercise in July 2022 ahead of the 2023 general election. However, the commission conducted voter registration exercises in states where off-cycle elections were held.
